Rhode Island just got it's first #puppymill, a breeding rescue in the basement of a pet store! We do NOT want a puppy mill, which is why Black Friday Protests are taking place in Rhode Island and across the country! Summary: ~ The Scituate Town Council voted to approve Perfect Puppy aka Reservoir Dogs' breeding rescue in the basement of the pet store. ~ Vice President Councilman Payette received donations from Perfect Puppy, but denied any conflicts of interest and voted to approve his new business. ~ Perfect Puppy's 2nd business is called Reservoir Dogs and is listed as a Rental Real Estate company. Why does a rental real estate company get permission to become a breeding rescue? ~ Zoning approved them with the requirement they build an entrance/exit to the basement. They never did, yet the Town Council approved them with the same requirement... Where's the accountability? ~ The building isn't up to par. They have to add a bunch of modifications, yet they've already been approved by Zoning and the Town Council. So who decides on the competency of those additional modifications? ~ Despite the fact that Perfect Puppy sells to all of Rhode Island, the Zoning committee refused to let Rhode Islanders speak during the public meeting, only Scituate residents. He said Rhode Islanders outside of Scituate were no different than someone from California coming into their town and telling them what to do. ~ Lastly, when the Zoning committee approved them, they weren't a legal business.
