Hello Everyone! So, this is going to be a bit of a long update...I'm going to be really honest and open with all of you. Lawyer Information: My lawyer is Mark Morse. He’s practiced law for over 25 yrs and is a member of the RI and Mass Bar Association. He was the president of the RI Trial Lawyers Association (now RI Association for Justice). He’s argued before the RI Supreme Court, the Massachusetts Appeals Court, and in federal and state trial courts in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He’s on numerous boards, has worked several cases related to animal rights and was highly recommended. Mark is also on retainer for an animal rights organization. Legal Update: After being served, Scott was to submit Discovery within 40 days. The 40-day time limit has come and gone- Scott’s taken no steps forward, he’s submitting nothing. He remains silent and inactive. It feels like he’s ignoring the countersuit and dragging this out...hoping I’ll be inundated w/ legal fees and give in. He seems to have a lack of interest in this case... What I think: ~ Scott never intended this case to move forward. ~ He did not expect me to fight back or actively defend myself. ~ He thought I’d back down and give in. ~ My response to their Summons may have caught them off guard. ~ Perfect Puppy has taken a step back. ~ They’re trying to figure out the best course of action re: moving forward With Scott being so inactive…I spoke with my lawyer re: why he hasn’t pushed for Discovery and why we’re all just floating… He was very honest with me. He’s not pushing right now, because I owe him legal fees… When I hired Mark, he offered to discount his services. I used my own money, along with the donations so generously given, to pay his retainer. It was expensive, but substantially less than his traditional retainer… It's been about six months now…the retainer has been used and now I owe legal fees... As this update will be viewable by anyone, not just the people who’ve donated, I will save exact amounts for individual conversations with you. Fundraising Update: I’m going to be incredibly open and honest about this…People have stopped donating...but I haven't stopped caring or fighting- WE haven't stopped...I cannot fight this or fund this alone…So, I'm going to figure out some innovative ways to raise money and raise the profile. When this started...I received such amazing support and encouragement… I do not believe I was naive in assuming that everyone in this community would pitch in and we would all fight this together. Now, because this a slander suit- people may struggle to see how this will make a difference in the lives of the puppies. This lawsuit has my name on it, but it’s against the Page. He’s saying customers and employees are not being truthful… So, I’m fighting this- with the intention to prove that what I posted is True. Doing so will hold Perfect Puppy accountable…it will assist the State. It will validate every person who’s ever been hurt by this place. Despite the fact that I've never bought a puppy and I have no personal stakes in this... This is an issue that I care very deeply about…and I’m not giving up. Every time I speak with someone who's been used or lied to or jerked around, it makes me angry. It is unacceptable for a business to treat people this way...The whole goal of the Page was to raise awareness and it's gotten much bigger than that...I’ve received a ton of "thank you" messages, from people who've really been hurt by this place...They've expressed feeling so much gratitude that someone's taking this these people on, trying to get them justice. They're hopeful that Perfect Puppy will be held accountable for the harm they've caused.
