In the past Peta has bestowed Dr Shashi Tharoor with the Person of the Year for using the power and prestige of his office to advocate for the protection of animals.
Meat consumption is devastating some of the world’s most valuable and vulnerable regions, due to the vast amount of land needed to produce animal feed, a report has warned.
But his insentive tweets regarding justifying brutal mass sacrifices of goats in which as prevalent Muslim ritual goats are halaled.
A slaughter tradtion in which Animals are killed or halal (according to Islamic law) in which they cannot be stunned before their throats are cut, which means that animals in gasp for their last breath, struggling to stand while the blood drains have taken many people like me by surprise that these words came from Dr Shashi Tharoor, Current Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, India’s Ex- Minister of State for Human Resource Development and a 2014 Peta Person of the year. It might only be one inhuman insensitive sentence, but that was one sentence too many, and the meaning is too much for those who love animals. Brutality of this kind have also find a place in Peta blogs too.
The growing popularity of a Western diet, which contains high levels of meat and dairy, means an area 1.5 times the size of the European Union would be saved if global consumption of animal products was reduced to meet nutritional requirements, according to the WWF.
The new report, Appetite for Destruction, launched at the Extinction and Livestock Conference, says the consumption of animal products is leading to a vast and increasing amount of land being used for crops.
Growing food for the world’s burgeoning population is likely to send greenhouse gas emissions over the threshold of safety, unless more is done to cut meat consumption, a new report has found.
A widespread switch to vegetarianism would cut emissions by nearly two-thirds, it said.
In three decades, emissions related to agriculture and food production are likely to account for about half of the world’s available “carbon budget” - the limited amount of carbon dioxide and its equivalents that can be poured into the atmosphere if we are to hold global warming to no more than 2C.
The Peta Person of the year award is given to “People who contribute towards the protection of animals and have compassion towards animals who are abused and killed for their skin and meat. These peaceful values need to be nurtured by the winner's of the award including Dr Tharror. When a awardee argues for slaughter of Animals, then for the sake of Animals itself the prize needs to be returned or confiscated by the Peta Award Committee.
Therefore, we hereby demand the Chair of the Peta Award Committee to confiscate or take back the Person of the year awarded to Dr Shashi Tharror. Only those who are serious in keeping the "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" may be awarded such a coveted Prize.
