Pennsylvania vs Mimms needs stipulations to Limit Unjust Police Authority in Texas

Pennsylvania vs Mimms needs stipulations to Limit Unjust Police Authority in Texas
The Issue
This petition is born out of a personal tragedy. My husband is charged with resisting arrest, search, or transport by the Denison Police Department because he feared for his life and didn't want to exit his vehicle without a valid reason. The officer's stated reason was that my husband was being argumentative - this is not a crime. Furthermore, the officer denied my husband medical attention, leading to severe consequences.
We are calling on the Texas Supreme Court to add stipulations/exceptions to Pennsylvania vs Mimms. This ruling currently gives police officers broad authority to remove citizens from their vehicles during traffic stops for minor infractions such as dim tag lights or failing to signal 100ft before turning. Unfortunately, some officers misuse this power causing unnecessary harm and false charges against innocent citizens.
We propose that explicit reasons should be stipulated in law for when an officer can ask a citizen to exit their vehicle during a traffic stop. This will help prevent abuse of power by corrupt officers who initiate unnecessary confrontations leading potentially harmful situations.
This change is not just about one family's story; it affects all Texans who could face similar unjust treatment under current laws. We urge you all - sign this petition and let us ensure our rights are protected against misuse of police authority in Texas.
