Unfair lockdown at USP Canaan

The Issue

The father of my children is currently serving a three year sentence in the USP Canaan maximum security facility. He has only been there for three months and out of that three months we have only been able to visit him once since we live in New York and I don't have access to a car on a regular basis. So our form of communication is mostly through phone calls and emails. These past two weeks we have not been able to speak to nor visit him do to this lockdown that has been going on since July 19th. The last communication that I had with him I sent him a message voicing a concern about one of our children and before we could speak about the issue the prison went into lockdown. Even though he is away he is still very involved with his children and I know being punished for something that another inmate did is unfair to him and to our children. Since he started his time there, there have been multiple lockdowns that usually last for seven days and I understand that safety is the number one priority. But locking down a whole prison for one persons actions is unfair to the other inmates and their families. Before he was transferred to Canaan he was at the MCC in New York where we visited him every week to keep him involved as much as possible. This lockdown is unfair and unjust. I read the article online about the five officers that were sent to the hospital due to exposure of drugs during cell searching for contraband, which they were eventually treated for and released. They have been able to go back to their daily routine. All I ask is that if visits are going to be suspended for a prolonged time that these men are at least able to communicate with thier children via the emails or phone. This article claims that the drugs were brought in through the mail not by a visitor. Which to me says that someone wasn't processing the inmate mail correctly. It's going on two weeks of no communication with our loved one and this weekend would make the third visit to be suspended. Again I understand safety is the priority but continuing to punish these men for others actions is not fair to the ones just trying to do their time and make it back home to their children. My children especially my youngest who is only five continues to ask for his father and it hurts because he can't understand why he hasn't been able to speak to his father he just knows that daddy hasn't called.
