The Peel District School Board is taking away teacher choice by mandating the use of Brightspace as a virtual learning environment. The vast majority of teachers in the PDSB use Google Classroom as their preferred learning platform, yet they will no longer be allowed to do so as of September 2021.

The Ontario Ministry of Education signed a ten year, $84 million agreement with Brightspace (while Dalton McGuinty was on Brightsapce's board of directors). This agreement was signed despite Google Classroom being the most used platform for teachers and students.

There is absolutely no sensible reason for the PDSB to prohibit the use of Classroom, the app that integrates all of the Google Apps for Education, and force the use of Brightspace. Teachers and students deserve choice and the freedom to select appropriate tools for use in education.
