PDSA & Vets Now Kills Pet for an App, to save time and money!

The Issue

Why I have made this Petition

Hyton PDSA joined with Vets Now killed my cat to save time, and money and to maximize profits, all because of an app.

3 heart attacks, and being told that even though I have seen 3 of these and a vet diagnosed and confirmed these 3 days ago by diagnosing the 3rd attack.

Even though your vets told me to call straight away so they can get them in, your teams deemed the situation did not qualify as an emergency and tried to push the emergency through an app.

I also have a recording of the disgusting manner in which your staff has no compassion or decency and tried to say it was my fault as the owner he died!

3 Minutes in the waiting room no one there mean while my cat having a 3rd heart attack and drowning in fluid from his lungs there was my cat dead on the counter, it took me screaming out is someone going to come and help?

As a vet came out, I said well his dead do you want to sort him now? The man shocked and sheepishly came over checked for a heartbeat, and confirmed that I knew his dead. We could see it with our own eyes.

The fact he was not breathing was a big giveaway. The vet then went for 6 minutes leaving us to grieve in the reception area with the woman behind the counter staring.

YOU LET MY CAT DIE IN PAIN AND A HORRIBLE VISUALLY DISTURBING DEATH!

The Vet Liverpool is not a charity but they try to keep prices as low as possible for everyone, they are kind, respectful, and very caring. The Vet Liverpool helped me with my dog when I thought a lump might be cancer, PDSA could not take a simple sample, and send it off to grow the cultures to see if it was cancer, as the PDSA is a charity that says is a VET Charity could not do a simple test, but yet The Vet Liverpool did and cost me £125.

That was consultation and test and medication. I got the all-clear.

The PDSA charged £240 for 1 consult and a night's stay on oxygen with my cat who is now dead due to wanting to use the app to verify him having a heart attack before allowing us to bring him in, and they would have charged for the privilege of the app, then charge another consultation when getting to PDSA then if he had not died another fee on top to stay again I was looking at another £240+.

Profiteering on the welfare of the pets, and the grief of owners, is not the way to help!

What I want to happen

They need to change their policies and system, they are not improving or providing a good quality of care service considering they charge for 2nd pets now, and charge more than some vets out there, services should be improving.

And your staff need training and consistency when giving out information about your services. PDSA is not what it used to be, I used to be grateful now I get worried when having to go to them.

Never had a paid vet get it wrong, your guys I wonder where did they get their qualifications from? or are they made up?

PDSA & Vets Now needs to improve;

  • Compassion
  • Understanding
  • Standards of care
  • Transparency of fees and what services they provide.
  • Change their name from including VET to First Aid Hospital, as saying they are a vet says they can deal with most veterinary procedures and services.
  • Be concise with the information provided to clients, instead of letting one client pay later and one client have to pay upfront. It's one or the other, you can not pick and choose, and it is not fair to people. Especially when someone spends the last of their electricity money, possibly going home to no electricity but others don't have to.
  • Staff should keep comments about callers, private, it should be kept for the back not for the public to hear and see.
Data protection training for all your staff.
  • You need to be more transparent with the services you offer and the services you can't offer. So when someone comes to your "VET Hospital" they are not disappointed when told they can't provide that service, test, or diagnostic tools. Then having to go find another VET. I would prefer to know you have a list of what you can and can't deal with so I can just find a VET that can provide the services you can't instead of having to pay for the privilege of having money taken to be told you have to go to another vet, having to pay again at a different vet. Also if it is something that the PDSA can not deal with we should not be paying for a consultation. You pay for the consultation expecting to have a full service.
  • People contact the PDSA, your advisors saying "Well I am not a VET, but it sounds like you need to find one" because you are not taking on any new clients is not helpful. People call the PDSA because your website states "Vet Charity" & "Pet Hospital" you are expecting to see or speak to a "VET". This causes stress on us as owners, and then stress on the pet as the pet sees and senses the stress, causing even more stress on the pet.
  • Your emergency telephones should be positioned in a private room, not in view of the public when some calls can be hard. It is not helpful and can be upsetting to people in the waiting area hearing the calls. They should also be positioned near the VET's themselves as your call handler has to check to see if a situation is an emergency or not and have someone answer the phones that are trained in knowing what is and what is not an emergency, as it seems they have very little animal knowledge. If they are answering phones to clients in need of vet care, should. Having a trained member of staff answering the phones, and being able to make a judgment as to if something is an emergency or not will cut down the time it takes to get life-saving treatment to our pets.

There are so much more improvements needing to be made not just for the service users but for the benefit and welfare of the animals they serve.

Make a change sign this petition, and make a noise! I will take on these two giants for all pets and owners across the UK. Things need to change before more pet's lives are put at risk and owners are devastated by them.
