The Issue

Western Ghats of Maharashtra state known as the Sahyadri Mountains. Twenty Elephants entered the Sahyadri Mountains in the year 2002 in the search of a homeland[1].

Presently roughly Six Elephants (Including Calf) are residing in the Forest Division of Kolhapur and Sindhudurg District (Maharashtra State) and it has marked a declination in the elephant count.

In past, the Forest Department of Maharashtra State has organized an Elephant Capture Mission and a Wild Elephant Kept in Captivity at Patanil (Gadchiroli, 442709).

Recently, the Tilari Conservation Reserve is established in the Maharastra State and Wild Elephants are residing in the forest of the Tilari Conservation Reserve.

The Captive Elephant kept at Patanil (Gadchiroli, 442709) need to be shifted to the Tilari Conservation Reserve.
