The Issue
PETITION FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CONESUS LAKE STATE BOAT LAUNCH
To the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Parks, and Elected Officials:
We, the undersigned residents, anglers, boaters, property owners, and visitors, respectfully request improvements to the public boat launch facilities at Conesus Lake, including paving and upgrading the parking and access areas.
Conesus Lake is one of Livingston County's most heavily used recreational resources, attracting anglers, boaters, families, and visitors throughout the year. Despite the importance of this public facility, launch users continue to encounter muddy, uneven, and difficult conditions that can impact safety, accessibility, and the overall experience.
The current conditions are particularly challenging during periods of rain and heavy use, when visitors may be forced to walk through mud, navigate rutted surfaces, and contend with poor drainage. These issues affect everyone who uses the wake launch, including seniors, families with children, and individuals transporting boating and fishing equipment.
Public users contribute through launch and parking fees and deserve facilities that are safe, accessible, and properly maintained. Improvements to the launch area would enhance public access, improve safety, reduce maintenance issues caused by erosion and mud, and better support the thousands of residents and visitors who enjoy Conesus Lake each year.
We respectfully request that the appropriate agencies:
• Pave and improve the boat launch parking and access areas.
• Address drainage concerns to reduce mud and standing water.
• Improve accessibility for all users.
• Evaluate future opportunities to increase and enhance public boating access on Conesus Lake.
This project would provide lasting benefits to residents, visitors, local businesses, and the recreational community while demonstrating a commitment to maintaining and improving New York's public outdoor resources.
We respectfully ask that this improvement be placed on the State's priority list for future funding and development.
