Petition to Vaughan City Council: Pause New AI Data Centre Approvals Until Comprehensive Review and Public Consultation

The residents of Vaughan are calling on City Council to temporarily pause approvals for new hyperscale AI data centres until a comprehensive assessment of their potential impacts has been completed and meaningful public consultation has taken place.

Hyperscale AI data centres are large-scale facilities that provide the computing power required for artificial intelligence and cloud technologies. These facilities can require significant electricity, cooling infrastructure, and land, making their planning an important issue for municipalities and residents alike.

Many members of our community are concerned that decisions regarding these developments are moving forward without sufficient public awareness or meaningful engagement. Given the long-term implications for infrastructure, land use, energy demand, environmental sustainability, and community planning, residents deserve the opportunity to understand these projects and participate in the decision-making process.

Important questions remain unanswered:
