East Lothian Council will today, Tuesday 31st October, try to remove any further evaluation or consideration of nature based solutions in the ongoing Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme. Council are meeting Tuesday 31st, and the consultants have proposed that any further consideration of nature based solutions are taken out of the scheme completely.
This is a blatant attempt to cut any democratic debate about what would be best for Musselburgh and to try to ensure their concrete walls will be built without any delay or democratic review. This will lead to the same consultants pocketing about £100 m of tax-payers money to build walls that thousands of people don't want, and that will ruin the amenity of Musselburgh and have a devastating impact on house prices in the town.
This disgraceful behaviour is being covered by several national newspapers this week, and to help show Councillors your opposition please get one or two of your contacts to sign the petition today. If we can show that their has been a surge in people signing the petition on the same day it will send a message. Our group has been getting increased dialogue with political parties who are starting to realise there is a problem and an injustice happening in Musselburgh.
Thanks again for your help.
