Sarasota County residents deserve a voice in how Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras are used in our community.

Flock cameras can be a valuable law-enforcement tool, but a growing network capable of recording when and where vehicles are observed also raises legitimate questions about privacy, data retention, outside-agency access and accountability.

We are asking Sarasota County to pause further expansion until residents receive clear answers, strong privacy safeguards, meaningful public oversight and an opportunity to be heard.

This is not anti-police, anti-safety or anti-technology.

It’s about finding the right balance.

Public safety matters. Privacy matters. Transparency matters.
