The project budget has suffered a $330m overrun, with the 6.7km link now set to cost $1.55bn, according to new figures revealed by the Department of Transport in a brief handed to new Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg.
Commuters now face a staged opening, with the department of Transport working with consortium GoldlinQ and major contractor John Holland Group to progressively open the line into mid-2026."
How on earth was this allowed to happen? Just think of the other infrastructure that could have been created with this 1.5 Billion. We now have electric buses that make a mockery of this being a climate issue.
This was nothing less that a ill-thought pipe dream that has now allowed the unfettered development of the coastal strip to "provide the population" to justify the light rail. It is simply a disgrace that will the be the legacy of Mayor Tom Tate.
