With yet another premature death of 3 year old colt Medina Spirit - anti doping regulations of equine athletes once again comes into question. This must stop and those guilty held accountable- no 3 year old horse should be pushed beyond their physical abilities via drugs causing heart attacks among other related health and behavior ailments. If the laws are put into place holding human athletes accountable so should the handlers of those entrusted with the life of equines. Horse racing is not likely to be stopped but what needs to come to an end are the erroneous expectations of an animal that is trained and has the natural attributes to compete and win without artificial and harmful drugs. The ethics further impedes those who follow the rules and puts them at an unfair advantage.

As advocates it’s imperative to be a voice for those who have none. We can help put the integrity back into a sport that although not all agree with - at least is held to the same standard as athletics and the world of human professional sports. 

Or do we keep turning a blind eye as these magnificent and emotionally intelligent and highly skilled equines keel over and die year after year
