Patients Call for Leadership Change at CVS Health
The Issue
I am a brain cancer patient who was forced to rely on CVS Specialty mail-order pharmacy due to insurance and Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) mandates. I did not choose this system, and I have no meaningful alternative.
For patients living with cancer, delays, errors, or barriers to medication access are not inconveniences, they are direct threats to our health and survival. When mail-order systems fail, there is no margin for error.
Despite being one of the largest healthcare corporations in the country, CVS Health has faced widespread reported concerns regarding chronic understaffing, long wait times, employee burnout, and operational breakdowns. Pharmacists and technicians have repeatedly warned that corporate pressure and staffing shortages are undermining patient care.
Multiple national surveys indicate that a majority of pharmacy professionals experience burnout, and many consider leaving the profession due to unsafe and unsustainable working conditions. These conditions affect patients like me every day.
When executive leadership continues to receive extraordinary compensation while patients and frontline staff bear the consequences, it reflects a failure of leadership priorities.
For these reasons, I urge the Board of Directors of CVS Health to seek new leadership and for the current CEO to resign or step down in the interest of patient safety, workforce sustainability, and public trust.
Healthcare decisions made at the top have real human consequences. I am living with those consequences.
