Allow food trucks to operate in Louisville, Ohio

Allow food trucks to operate in Louisville, Ohio
The Issue
We are Poagies BBQ, a food trailer based out of Louisville, Ohio. All of the owners, employees, and their children were born and raised in Louisville. We operate in Louisville as well as other locations. There Is a certain business owner in the city of Louisville trying to ban all food truck related activity within city limits. She has started a petition and is collecting signatures from city businesses and residents. Not only would this be detrimental to our small business, it would also prohibit other small business owners from serving people within city limits. As the law is currently written, we are allowed to set up at any city event. The city’s stance is food trucks should be allowed to operate within city limits under the following guidelines: All food truck operators would need a license from the city, they can set up 3x a year but no more than 2 consecutive days at one location, they can set up 5x a year at schools and churches but no more than 2 consecutive days at one location, finally they can set up at any private residence without restriction as long as the resident obtains a permit from the city (which is free of charge). There is going to be a city council meeting on Monday, May 18th 2020 at 7pm where this issue will be discussed. Due to covid-19 the meeting will be held on the internet using the Zoom platform. Details on how to join the meeting can be found on louisvilleohio.com closer to the date the meeting is to occur. We take no issue with the city’s proposed rules regarding food trucks we just don’t want to see our industry banned from city limits entirely. With the covid-19 pandemic still infecting new people daily, It should also be noted that food trucks are a safer way to provide food to multiple individuals and groups as opposed to a buffet or traditional catering methods, which expose food and food related items to multiple people, whereas our items go directly from one of our employees to the consumer with no other human contact. We need you the citizens of Louisville to speak up, sign our petition, attend the online city council meeting on May 18th, and call or write the mayor and other members of city council and let them know you’re in support of food trucks being able to operate inside Louisville city limits. Your support means the world to our small business and so many others in our industry. Thank you.
