Families who lose loved ones to a violent crime should not have to fear for their safety while planning memorial services.
After losing our son, Jacob Antonio Jaime Jr., our family received threats that forced us to change his memorial service, make it private, and move it to another location just to feel safe.
No family should have to go through that while grieving.
We are asking Arizona lawmakers to pass the “Jacob Antonio Jaime Jr. Victim Family Protection and Dignity Act,” which would:
• Ensure law enforcement presence at memorial services in cases involving ongoing investigations, unapprehended suspects, or credible threats
• Create a dedicated support system for victim families
• Allow families to grieve safely and with dignity
Currently, there is inconsistency in how protection is provided. Some cases receive automatic police presence, while other grieving families are left to navigate the process alone.
Families deserve protection, peace, dignity, and respect during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
This legislation is being proposed in honor of Jacob Antonio Jaime Jr. and every family that deserves to mourn without fear.
