I am intentionally keeping the original text below unchanged for historical purposes — to show both myself and others how much I’ve grown in my advocacy over time. This journey has taught me a great deal about persistence, precision, and purpose.

I wrote this during the earlier phases of my work on what is now officially called the:

H.R. 1725 – Sgt. Isaac Woodard, Jr. and Sgt. Joseph H. Maddox GI Bill Restoration Act of 2025.

I wrote this reflection as part of a message on (7/24/2025) to accompany the legacy version of the text below.

Please sign and share to help restore what was stolen from Black American (Freedmen) WWII veterans and their descendants.
Justice delayed is justice denied.

[ Legacy Text Below (8/23/24) ]

Please sign and share to help restore what was stolen from Black WWII veterans and their descendants. Justice delayed is justice denied.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the G.I. Bill into law on June 22, 1944.

This was meant to help military veterans gain access to low-cost mortgages, help pay for a college education, Vocational training, and more. White WWII veterans could use the GI Bill for these reasons as it was intended to amass generational wealth through home ownership. Their Black American counterparts weren't able to do the same en masse due to racism, segregation, and historic housing discrimination. They were denied the GI bill.

Today Veterans like myself, A Black American ( Freedmen ) Navy Veteran know how the benefits of the GI Bill can help change your life. It helped me with my college education and also being able to afford my first home.

I believe it is my duty as a United States Navy Veteran and us as Americans to make sure that the families of these brave men are awarded that same opportunity that was denied to them to be rectified through their descendants.

This long overdue "Military Benefit" will help their family members and more.

Through the Bill S. 3257/H. R. 5905

The Sgt. Isaac Woodard, Jr. and Sgt. Joseph H. Maddox GI Bill Restoration Act of 2023 or simply

“The GI Bill Restoration Act”

originally introduced by Congressman Jim Clyburn and Representative Seth Moulton. It is now also supported by Senator Raphael G. Warnock

We now have a chance to address this historic wrong done to our fellow service members.

This bill would:

  1. Provide Housing loans guaranteed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Black veterans of World War II and survivors and certain direct descendants of such veterans.
  2. Provide Educational assistance for survivors and certain direct descendants of Black veterans of World War II.
  3. Aid in benefits and assistance for female and minority veterans.

As a Modern-day Veteran, I would like for this legislation to get passed. No service members who serve our great nation The United States Of America deserve to go through such an economic tragedy. I want to make sure service members of the Past, Present, and future never endure things like this concerning their Military benefits. The passing of this legislation will help set a positive precedence for many service members and our country as a whole to take care of our veterans who have made many sacrifices to us and our great nation to protect our freedoms and our way of life.
