The Issue

WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND

We, the undersigned people of Tennessee and fellow compassionate care givers everywhere, demand the Tennessee General Assembly pass M.I.D.G.E.T.S. S.O.S. — Moral  Integrity, Defense, and Guidelines For Enforcement, Treatment,  and Standards Soulful Omnibus Safety Act.

We demand:

1. That no veterinary facility may alter, rewrite, or reconstruct a patient record after the fact. Every record must carry an unalterable digital trail.

2. That no animal be sedated without documented pre-surgical vital signs — heart rate, breathing, and risk assessment recorded before any drug is given.

3. That every patient's critical medical alerts — heart conditions, seizure disorders, allergies, bleeding risks — be prominently flagged and reviewed before any prescription or procedure.

4. That every family receive their animal's complete, unedited treatment and anesthesia logs within 48 hours — no delays, no summaries, no missing pages.

5. That every drug dose be recorded with drug name, concentration, and mg/kg — never a volume alone that no one can verify.

6. That no healthy animal be killed for convenience, capacity, or space.

7. That no one be punished for feeding stray and colony cats — and that community cat colonies be protected, not destroyed.

8. That veterinary facilities be held to clear, enforceable standards through an independent Bureau — so good veterinarians are protected and families can trust the system.

This law protects good veterinarians and the families who trust them.

We are not asking for sympathy. We are demanding law.

Sign below to stand with us.Nothing can bring my beloved furbaby back, but I can fight with everything I have to stop this tragedy from happening to another family.

He was a free-roaming stray who had learned over the years not to trust humans. A compact tuxedo cat with deeply expressive, soulful eyes that held a profound, human-like presence — a silent plea for protection.

Then one day he looked at me, and he was asking for help. I trapped him and brought him indoors. He finally placed his trust in me.

On February 10th, I took him to a veterinary facility. That morning, I called to check on him. I spoke with someone twice after dropping him off — then my calls started going straight to voicemail. I stopped calling because I felt like I was being bothersome. They were busy, I told myself.

At 2:06 PM, I got the call that he was gone.

This is what the record they gave me shows:

- No documented pre-anesthetic examination.

- His sedation recorded as "Ketamine/Ace 0.9 ml" — no drug concentrations, no mg/kg doses, no way to verify what he was given.

- I was told of his death by phone at 2:06 PM. His chart logs a weight entry at 3:36 PM.

- The chart hardcodes his intake at 5:00 AM. I handed him over at the 8:00 AM opening time.

- The chart shows a finalization time of 4:06 PM.

I asked questions. I was dismissed. No one could explain the discrepancies, and no one had to.

He was just a stray to them — someone who meant nothing, so they expected  I would let it go and forget. They didn't realize how much he meant to me.

The law still treats our pets as property — no different from a piece of furniture. A car repair shop faces more accountability for cutting corners than a veterinary clinic does. That's why I'm fighting for M.I.D.G.E.T.S. S.O.S. — Moral Integrity, Defense, and Guidelines For Enforcement Treatment and Standards Soulful Omnibus Safety Act. A Tennessee bill requiring four non-negotiable safety pillars:

1. Unalterable digital audit trails for every patient record — so no facility can rewrite history after the fact.

2. Strict pre-surgical vital tracking, documented before any sedation — catching risks before they become emergencies.

3. Release of unedited treatment and anesthesia logs to families within 48 hours — so you can get a second opinion without paying to redo every test.

4. A universal medical alert registry flagging severe medical errors across clinics and emergency hospitals — so no vet blindly repeats a fatal mistake.

No family should have to reconstruct what happened to their pet from a chart that contradicts itself. His silent plea for protection is now written into law.

This fight starts in Tennessee — but it belongs to everyone who has ever loved an animal. Lawmakers listen to numbers. Your signature, from any state, is pressure they can't ignore. Sign and help make M.I.D.G.E.T.S. S.O.S. law.
