Pass JC Law: Require AEDs & CPR Training in Hotels

Pass JC Law: Require AEDs & CPR Training in Hotels
The Issue
On April 20, 2026, I lost JC.
While staying at a hotel, JC suffered a cardiac arrest. I begged the staff for help. They refused. When I asked for an AED a device that can restart a stopped heart, I was told there wasn't one on the premises.
JC died.
Every minute without CPR or defibrillation, survival odds drop by 10%. Hotels welcome millions of guests every night families, elderly travelers, people with heart conditions yet most have no AED and no trained staff. We require hotels to have fire extinguishers. Smoke detectors. Evacuation routes.
Why not the tools to save a heart?
JC Law would require all hotels to:
✅ Install accessible AED devices on every property
✅ Certify all staff in CPR and AED response
✅ Establish mandatory emergency response protocols
Train and certify all staff in CPR and AED use, so that no guest ever hears the words "I don't know how to help you"
Establish clear emergency response protocols so staff are legally and morally obligated to act in a medical crisis
We require hotels to have fire extinguishers on every floor. We require them to post evacuation routes on every door. A fire hasn't killed someone in that hotel in decades, but a cardiac arrest might happen tonight.
There is no excuse for being unprepared for the more likely emergency. This Is About Accountability.
JC is gone. Nothing changes that. But somewhere right now, another family is checking into a hotel. Another person with a heart condition is falling asleep in a room where no one on staff knows CPR. Another AED is sitting uninstalled in a supply closet or not there at all.
JC could not have been saved. But when I begged for help, I was turned away. No AED. No trained staff. No response. And that is not something any family should ever have to face in their worst moment.
The next person deserves better. But only if we demand it.

Because JC deserved someone to show up. And so does every guest who checks into a hotel tonight.
In memory of JC — gone too soon, never forgotten.
