The Issue

Caroline Flack was more than a headline. She was a daughter, a friend, a talented woman loved by millions. Her vivacious spirit and infectious charm graced our screens, making her a beloved television personality. Yet, in the weeks leading to her tragic death, the press hunted, mocked, and monetised her pain, tearing apart her dignity and accelerating her demise.

In an industry that prides itself on freedom of speech, it's easy to forget the personal toll of relentless media speculation and harassment. Various studies indicate that media intrusion is linked to significant stress, depression, and in severe cases, suicide. Caroline’s tragic end is a stark reminder of the toxic practices some media outlets engage in, practices that can irrevocably damage those they target.

Caroline’s Laws must be enacted to prevent the press from destroying lives. We propose legal measures that hold media organisations accountable for undue harassment and intrusion, particularly in personal and sensitive matters. Additionally, we propose stricter regulations on the reporting and publication of such content to ensure that no other family has to endure what Caroline's did.

Regulations should require media outlets to adhere to ethical standards that respect individuals’ privacy, especially during distressing times. This law will advocate for corrective actions, including public apologies, fines, and the withdrawal of unethical reports.

We have the power to make change. By signing this petition, you are standing in solidarity with those who have been unfairly targeted, and urging legislators to pass Caroline’s Law. Let’s work towards a compassionate and just media landscape that values lives over headlines. Sign the petition and demand action now.
