Residents in Long Island City are staying home as much as possible, however this is a residential neighborhood with many families with kids and dogs. The parks are public and serve residents from all over Queens. People have been jogging in bike lanes and on the streets so they can maintain a safe distance from others. We need more space so when residents need to run errands, jog, walk their dog or get stir-crazy they can walk or run while safely maintaining 6-10 feet of space between themselves. Social distancing complaint calls from our neighborhood have been flooding 311! A full or partial closure of  Center Boulevard to traffic could help alleviate the overflow from the park and it would make it safer and easier for pedestrians to be outside. Trucks would  still be allowed to drop off deliveries. Cars and trucks would also be able to use 5th Street and Vernon Boulevard to access stores and garages. Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo, help us safely practice social distancing!
