Parkside Should Let You Choose The Subjects You Want To Learn

The Issue

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Parkside School implement a policy that allows students greater freedom to choose their own subjects, particularly from Key Stage 3 onward.

Why This Matters:
Student Engagement: Allowing students to pursue subjects they are genuinely interested in increases motivation, attendance, and academic performance.
Personalized Learning: Every student has different strengths, aspirations, and career goals. Subject choice helps tailor education to individual needs.
Preparation for the Future: Early exposure to chosen subjects prepares students for GCSEs, further education, apprenticeships, and careers in a more meaningful way.
Mental Health & Wellbeing: When students feel they have control over their education, it reduces stress and promotes positive mental health.
We acknowledge that core subjects (such as English, Maths, and Science) should remain mandatory to ensure a well-rounded education. However, we believe that offering elective choices in areas such as the arts, technology, languages, humanities, and vocational skills will enhance the overall quality of education at Parkside.

Our Request:
Introduce subject choice at an earlier year level (e.g., Year 8 or 9)
Provide a wider range of optional subjects
Actively seek student input when designing the subject offerings
We urge Parkside School to consider this petition as a step toward a more flexible, student-centered approach to education.
