Kent Girls Football League Ban for Young Players
The Issue
The Kent Girls Football has proposed a ban for any players participating in the Junior Premier League. KGLFL proposed a new rule that in summary means girls cannot play in their league on a Sunday if they also play in the girls JPL league on a Saturday. Their Constitution rules state that new rules can only be implemented by a majority vote. The vote was not a majority vote of member clubs and the vote was done on an online zoom call without official unbiased verification.
The children of Kent and the rest of the country has suffered enough in the last 18 months and the mental health in some of them is very fragile. Young girls are now being forced to decide between playing with their friends or to develop themselves in a different league.
Another revelation at the AGM was also that despite the committee ruling that girls may not dual sign between the JPL and the KGLFL. It is okay for boys to play in the girls league and there are no senior boys leagues being excluded from dual signing ban.
Young girls are now being forced to decide between playing with their friends or to develop themselves in a different league.
There were two reasons given by the committee for suggesting this rule. One of those is that there were far too many fixtures cancelled last season due to JPL injuries or game clashes. This amounted to 6 games cancelled in total out of a full season.
The second reason they gave for them putting this rule forward to vote was that they were concerned about the overuse and overplay of players causing injury.
However when questioned the committee admitted they had no statistics, no evidence and had not completed any research into whether their reasoning behind the rules suggestion was fair and right.
The rule is sexist unfair and takes away freedom of choice for young girls in Kent. Please sign this petition to attempt to get this new rule overturned by the FA if you’ve made it this far thank you for reading and please share.
