Next Monday, 27 March 2023 the BCC Board or their legal representatives will be present at the ACT Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) in Civic to fight a finding that Brindabella Christian Education Limited (BCEL) is not a fit and proper person to be the Approved Authority for Brindabella Christian College.

To demonstrate your concern about governance at BCC and to show support to the many students, parents and staff that have been affected by the actions of the BCC Board, please meet outside AAT at 9:30am next Monday (see details below). It's time for change!

Background

On 17 May 2021 the Minister made a decision that Brindabella Christian Education Limited (BCEL) is not a fit and proper person to be the Approved Authority for Brindabella Christian College.

Concerns were expressed around the school’s compliance with the Education Act 2013 and issues raised around: its not for profit status, related party transactions, possible benefits to directors and financial viability.

As a result of this decision, the Minister varied BCEL’s Approval imposing conditions for BCEL to review and change governance arrangements, improve the financial management of BCC, engage an independent review of the school’s financials and report specifically, related party transactions, in the 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 financials.

This decision by the Minister was immediately appealed by the BCEL Board with an application for Review by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal lodged in June 2021. A stay was granted on the conditions imposed until a decision by the AAT is reached.

The review has been ongoing since June 2021.   Final hearings have been scheduled to commence Monday 27th March over five days.

As of 22 March 2023, BCC has not reported any financials to the ACNC since 2019 and the school is currently red-flagged by the ACNC.

Please consider joining us at 9.30am to show the media, the Court and the Federal Minister that the community seeks change and the Ministers decision upheld.  Our children deserve better.  It's time for change!

Final Hearings are open to the public to attend, all week at the Canberra Registry of the AAT.

AAT hearing scheduled for 10am Monday 27th March 2023

Meet outside the AAT at 9:30am to show your support!
