On June 10, 2023, my baby brother was tragically taken from us. His life was cut short by a teenager who showed no regard for human life. This story is not unique to my family; many others have been devastated by the violent acts of juveniles. Our community is under siege by a wave of youth violence that seems to be spiraling out of control.

The juvenile justice system in our city appears to be failing us, and it's time we look at the root cause - parental responsibility. We must question where these parents are when their children commit such heinous acts? It should not fall on the community alone to raise these children; this is primarily a parental duty.

According to data from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), there has been an alarming increase in juvenile crime rates over recent years. This trend cannot continue unchecked.

We propose legislation to hold parents accountable for their children's violent crimes. If they fail in their duty as parents and allow their children to wreak havoc on other families' lives, they must face consequences too.

This petition seeks justice not just for my baby brother but also for all victims of juvenile violence. It's time we demand change and hold those responsible accountable this includes parents who neglect their duties leading to such tragedies.
