STOP al proyecto de ampliación de la estación de esquí de Sierra Nevada, Granada (España)
El problema
Este verano, CETURSA, la empresa pública que explota la estación de esquí de Sierra Nevada, tiene previsto construir un nuevo telesquí de 1,6 Km de longitud, junto con el correspondiente sistema de producción de nieve artificial, en una zona protegida de Sierra Nevada. El proyecto, al que tan sólo le falta obtener el permiso municipal, forma parte de un plan de inversiones mucho más vasto, el Plan Estratégico Sierra Nevada 2020-2030, que contempla destinar más de 200 millones de euros a la ampliación (más pistas, más remontes, más cañones, más máquinas pisapistas, más hoteles y apartamentos, más aparcamientos subterráneos) de la estación de esquí. Esta ampliación irá acompañada de un uso cada vez más intensivo de energía eléctrica y agua, entre otras cosas para producir la nieve que permita abrir la estación "incluso en condiciones de absoluta falta de precipitaciones". De hecho, CETURSA tiene solicitada una modificación de la concesión administrativa que le permitiría más que duplicar el volumen de agua que ahora mismo puede dedicar a la producción de nieve, y que pasaría de 350.000 m3 a 725.000 m3. Esto equivaldría a captar el equivalente al consumo anual de agua de 7.953 vecinos de Monachil, localidad que tiene una población censada de 7.939 habitantes. Se estima que en torno al 30% del agua que se utiliza para producir nieve artificial se pierde definitivamente por evaporación y sublimación directa.
Contra este sinsentido los vecinos y las vecinas del pueblo a través del colectivo "La nieve no es de naide" hemos decidido alzar la voz y PEDIR AL AYUNTAMIENTO DE MONACHIL QUE NO AUTORICE NINGUNA AMPLIACIÓN DE LA ESTACIÓN DE ESQUÍ, Y QUE EMPIECE POR DENEGAR EL PERMISO PARA EL NUEVO TELESQUÍ "EL PUENTE" Y SU LÍNEA DE PRODUCCIÓN DE NIEVE ARTIFICIAL.

SIGN THE PETITION OF THE GROUP 'LA NIEVE NO ES DE NADIE' AGAINST THE EXTENSION OF A SKI RESORT IN THE SIERRA NEVADA SPAIN.
This summer, CETURSA, the public company that operates the Sierra Nevada ski resort, is planning to build a new 1.6 kilometer-long ski lift, together with the corresponding artificial snow production system, in a protected area of the Sierra Nevada.
The project, which is only awaiting municipal permission, is part of a much larger investment plan, called Plan Estratégico Sierra Nevada 2020-2030, which envisages allocating more than 200 million euros for expansion (more slopes, more ski lifts, more canyons, more snow grooming machines, more hotels and flats, more underground car parks) of the ski resort.
This expansion will go hand in hand with an increasingly intensive use of electricity and water, among other things, to produce the snow that allows the resort to be opened "even under conditions of absolute lack of precipitation".
In fact, CETURSA has applied for a modification of the administrative concession which would allow it to more than double the volume of water that it can currently use to produce snow, which would go from 350,000 m³ to 725,000 m³. This would be the equivalent of the annual water consumption of 7,953 residents of Monachil, a town with a total registered population of 7,939 inhabitants. Next to that, it is estimated that around 30% of the water that is used to produce artificial snow is definitively lost through evaporation and direct sublimation.
With CETURSA trying to get this plan approved in a year of extreme drought, with the Sierra Nevada getting dryer and dryer, the inhabitants of the village have decided to raise their voices:
WE ASK THE TOWN COUNCIL OF MONACHIL TO NOT AUTHORIZE ANY EXPANSION OF THE SKI RESORT, AND TO START BY REFUSING PERMISSION FOR THE NEW SKI LIFT CALLED “EL PUENTE” AND ITS ARTIFICIAL SNOW PRODUCTION LINE.
