Paint & Restore Broadway Bridge Both Sides L11 & L4
The Issue
For the past 15 years, I've had the privilege of running the Bridge Community Centre, nestled in the heart of our community, just steps away from the Old Salvation Army Hall. Each day, residents of L11 & L4 come through our doors, many asking the same question: "Can we do something about the Broadway Bridge?" This once-beautiful structure, towering above us, has become an unfortunate eyesore, a shadow of its former glory. It stands as a stark reminder of neglect, and, if we don't act, it will continue to affect our community negatively.
In 2015 and 2017, we reached out to our local councillors, pleading for their support to secure funding for the bridge's restoration. Unfortunately, we were met with the familiar refrain: "There is no funding available." It has been years, and the time for change is now. Painting and restoring the Broadway Bridge is not just about aesthetics; it is about pride, history, and future legacy. This project is crucial for strengthening the structural integrity of the bridge, ensuring it remains a vital part of our community fabric for generations to come.
In urban planning across the globe, studies have shown that well-maintained public infrastructure can significantly boost local morale and community cohesion. Our bridge, if given the attention it deserves, would not only enhance the visual appeal of our neighborhood but could also inspire communal activities and initiatives. Think of the whole-family activities we could host beneath a freshly-painted bridge, the renewed sense of pride walking underneath, showing visitors a landmark we’re proud of.
We understand that funding is tight, but there are feasible solutions. We could explore public-private partnerships, engage with local businesses for sponsorships, apply for grants dedicated to preserving public works, or organize community-led fundraising efforts. By coming together, we can unlock new avenues for funding and community involvement.
It's time to take action and preserve our heritage, champion our community’s pride, and provide an environment where the residents of L11 & L4 can continue to thrive. Help us persuade our local government to allocate the necessary funds for the Broadway Bridge’s renovation. Sign this petition, and let’s ensure that the bridge remains a point of pride that’s in place not an eyesore, for years to come.
