State Terrorism in the Cuban Official Press: "Machete, machete that they are Few

December 8, 2020. Antonio Maceo gave a machete for the independence of Cuba and, it is said, even had a run-in with José Martí in La Mejorana. The pages torn from Martí's Diary lead us to believe in the veracity of that episode. But it is hard to imagine Maceo, with his lights and shadows, haranguing his troops shouting "Machete, machete that they are few."

The Cuban regime perfects the stupidity of its messages of continuity. As proof of this, the official site Cubadebate shared on Facebook a post in which, on the image of a statue of Maceo, it read "As the Bronze Titan would say: "Machete, machete that they are few". The post did not identify the "few" who should receive machetes, but in these times it is clear that it is directed against the San Isidro Movement, the youth of the 27N and all Cuban civil society that is supporting their demands.

Taking advantage of the enemy's numerical disadvantage in a war is part of military tactic. Outsmarting the enemy in numbers and weapons may detract from victory, but it is a legitimate wish in times of war. But crush the dissident, launch a mob against an opponent and cheer a mass, shouting "that they are few", against a handful of people who peacefully claim rights and freedoms; that is cowardice and vileness to the nth degree. State terrorism could be perfectly defined with that cry.
