Injured Cat’s In Need of Medical Care Held Hostage by PG & E

Original Petition:  It’s right out of a horror story.  Four community cats living on property owned by PG&E have had their legs severed in the last year.  One cat has had two legs severed. This can’t be a coincidence.

At the beginning of the year, my neighbor, who has cared for local feral cat colonies for 25 years, discovered a grey cat with a missing paw near PG&E’s San Francisco waterfront property.  She was able to trap him and get him to the vet, where his leg was amputated.  She then found him a good home.  Soon after, another cat with a missing leg was discovered in the fenced-in area on PG&E’s property.  She named him Two Step. Tragically, over the past several months, Two Step lost a second leg and now balances on his two right legs.  A third cat she named Grayson also showed up with an injured back leg.  With his severed leg, Grayson dragged himself up the hill on the far side of the property, where my friend was able to trap him and get him to the vet.  He lost his leg but survived the ordeal. Now, Grayson lives at home with her.  Almost unbelievably, a fourth cat, Mabel, has been discovered with a severed back leg.

My friend contacted SF Animal Care and Control (SFACC) to investigate. While SFACC thought these injuries were suspicious, for reasons that are still unclear, they did not follow up or intervene.  We then contacted PG&E directly to request help.  After a lengthy application process to request access to the PG&E property to rescue the injured cats, our request was declined with no reason given.  A further appeal was met with no response.

Everyday my friend watches Two Step and Mabel through the fence as they hobble over to eat the food she provides, trapped inside the PG&E fence where they are, essentially, being held hostage, in desperate need of medical care and at risk of further mutilation and infection from their injuries.  Recently, while waiting for permission to access the area, Mabel’s severed leg fell off.

Cats are not the sole victims in this saga.  An eyewitness has informed us that they recently witnessed someone — perhaps a PG&E employee — inside this fenced-in area beat the leg of a raccoon.  To our horror, this incident might shed light on how these cats are being mutilated.

We need 15 minutes after closing time to access the yard to set traps and then 10 minutes daily to monitor the traps.

PLEASE!  TELL PG&E TO GRANT US ACCESS TO RESCUE TWO STEP, MABEL, AND ANY OTHER CATS ON THE PROPERTY AND INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THESE MUTILATIONS.

NOTE:  We are very grateful to all for signing this petition and helping our cause. For those of you that are already directing your resources toward taking care of your community animals, your selfless vote of support is more than enough.
