Check out the old covered bridge in Ozark by the Mill in the early 1900's

This "shot" of the covered wagon bridge just above the Ozark Mill, over Finley Creek is NOT real exciting.

But I know that some of us are purists and we like to stick our necks around every corner and in every hole to see what something really looked like. So here is the Christian County bridge without the romanticism of Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep or Madison County!

Built by brothers-in-law Robert Preston Lawing and John R. Weaver in 1870 it was washed away in a major Finley flood in 1909, and replaced by a Canton, Ohio Iron bridge.

And then in the 1920s this new bridge was transported to Biers Ford where it became known as the Riverside Bridge.

This postcard photo was dated 1907.

We here it all the time. "Things need to change for progress." I have been researching the Ozark, Mo area for months now and here is the progress I noticed

  • Better Roads
  • Schools
  • A few businesses
  • A population of more than 10,000

The city of Ozark does not have enough businesses to employ its citizens. A hundred years ago, it wasn't needed because most people were self employed in the farming industry. Now everyone has to drive to Nixa, Springfield or someplace else.

OZARK Changed from an Agricultural Community to a BEDROOM COMMUNITY. That is not progress that is regression.

If the city leaders want progress, bring in some industry. Stop destroying environmental and historical land.

Please sign the petition and share it with everyone.
