Overturn the 2019 Law Prohibiting Chickens and Other Fowl within Dover City Limits

Overturn the 2019 Law Prohibiting Chickens and Other Fowl within Dover City Limits
The Issue
I am a resident of Dover, OH, USA for 12 years. For years, we enjoyed the freedom to raise chickens and other fowl in our backyards. This changed in 2019 when a law was passed prohibiting this practice within city limits. This law not only took away our rights but also disrupted a way of life that many of us cherished.
Raising chickens provides numerous benefits such as fresh eggs, natural pest control, and even companionship. According to the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, backyard flocks can contribute positively to local ecosystems by reducing food waste and providing high-quality compost for gardens.
However, despite these benefits and our long-standing tradition of raising poultry at home, we were stripped of this right without any substantial reason given by the authorities.
We believe that with proper regulations in place for noise control and cleanliness standards - which most responsible chicken owners already adhere to - there is no valid reason why residents should be barred from keeping chickens or other fowl.
This petition is not just about owning chickens; it's about preserving our rights as citizens. It's about standing up against unnecessary restrictions that infringe upon our freedoms without offering any significant benefit in return.
This petition will help bring back a right we had since Dover Ohio became a town. A small Victory is all it takes.
Join me today in urging the city council to overturn this unjust law. Let's bring back our right to raise chickens within Dover city limits! Please sign this petition now! Thank you for your support.
There was a push from a very young man this past year to get rid of this city ordinance. I will say he did inspire me to start this. I was never happy about this ordinance to begin but now I really don't like it. They denied that young man this.
At the same time I been wanting to raise chickens. My wife would like to also and a lot of others also. They are the silent majority. So I do urge you to sign this petition. I'm not asking for money or for you to attend city council meetings. I'll be doing that myself about this issue. By signing this.. it will help show everyone that freedoms will not be taken away and denied by people in charge. Thank you again.
