The Issue

Inspired and encouraged by a global breakdancing controversy seen in Paris in 2024, the time has come to look at the half-full part of the glass - as it has always been more productive to focus on the positives and the lesson. Maybe the take-home message is that we should have a new official sport that anyone could do!

This sport is simple, inclusive, much needed, aligned with the age that we live in, and it is also be suitable for people with certain disabilities.

So… now that breakdancing is out, let’s all welcome TRASH PICK-UP as a sport for both trained athletes and normal, non-extraordinary gifted people a.k.a. the majority of us who live on Earth!

Please sign and share now! Adding a new sport to the 2028 roster is a tedious process. We must move fast, showing that the desire exists, and hopefully Outdoors Cleanups will be introduced for the first time ever at the Los Angeles event in 2028, due to your signature! Hey, you might even be part of a National Team! (Yes, you could - since everyone is a trash-athlete! Train to represent your country - alone or with others - anything works. FUN 🔔 ALERT  -> TRY THIS AUGUMENTED REALITY LINK & SHARE IT -> AR trash ‘Surprise.’ —> allow camera and motion access & even consider trying another browser; the link is active.)

This is both a practical and symbolic new sport that matches our reality. While taking out of context the words of Captain Kirk (and also Captain Picard’s), we must admit that trash did “boldly go where no one has gone before.”

We now have space junk, islands of garbage in the middle of the oceans, foreign trash dumped in other countries (unbeknownst to many, or often quickly forgotten…), microplastics in the polar snow, and even inside our bodies… Tragically, numerous species of animals are on the verge of extinction due to ingesting our litter… Let’s make picking up trash popular!

Why do it? Do it for the children, the planet, and the animals!

All kids go through the cute stage and age when they scribble Earth-loving messages - and they believe in them. Let’s not allow this to become their ‘vibe’ once they grow up. PLS sign and share the petition!

N THX for personally making good history happen!

        ~ A FEW SUGGESTED RULES ~

The intention was to keep the text brief, yet a couple of people asked about rules to assess if the idea has value. Final guidelines can be established later on. Until then, here are a few quick examples/ suggestions:

Teams do cleanups over the span of three days (could be less, could be more) ->

Day 1 - block cleanup - city setting
Clean up from (?) a.m. to (?) p.m. (can have breaks)

Distance - XY blocks/ XY miles

Day 2 - beach/ forest/ field cleanup

Day 3 - city/ industrial area

Who wins? All countries - 206 teams - because this is an atypical ‘competition’ aligned with the times, the needs, and the desired reaction from people (joining forces). We associate Ancient Greeks and marathons with testing endurance; there was no (scary, everlasting) common offender to catch, so there was only one winner.

In the 2020s, let’s chase garbage together! The new ‘trash-marathon’ will test each team’s endurance while athletes pick up litter!

The big winner will be everyone… on Earth! Participants and observers, supporters and cheerleaders, and even the indifferent or unaware individuals! Furthermore, the nature of this activity is selfless. When people do cleanups, they do not compete with each other; the only feeling in the air is ‘love for the palnet!’

On July 5th, 2023, 400 volunteers from several non-profits gathered in a few hours 8,500 pounds of trash left behind by partygoers, following the Fourth of July celebrations at Lake Tahoe, California (6,300 pounds from one beach only).

That is a load suitable for a few National Teams, in case some still doubt this should be crowned as an official sport!

The point is that the rules will be simple and will be born pretty fast. Even more so, the ideal way to go about it is to engage young people! Please show parents and teachers this article, inviting youth to do what they do best - get creative while playing games - and suggest the rules!

And then, of course, please sign and share the petition. (Don’t let the good information stop with you ❣️) Getting this practical contemporary sport promoted and officially recognized will help tidy up the planet 🌎 🤍 🌍🪽 🌏 🕊️

P.S.

The petition was introduced to the world on 11/11 Make A Wish Day, so once you’ve signed it, regardless of the date, please take a minute to Make A Wish for Earth!

Furthermore, consider that this petition was launched as a collective wish to mark our common two-year anniversary as 8 billion people on Earth, observed on November 15th, 2024!

Indeed, for the next two decades, the 11th month of each year is “The 8 Bi11ion Month” inviting us to “Real Love, Simple Action” – meaningful eco-action, as simple as signing this petition and then sharing it!

Once you sign, please leave a note 💖.(Due to a technical error, a few comments are hidden; customer service has been notified.)

🌎 🤍 🌍 🪽🌏

If you do a cleanup and don’t sign the petition, you miss an opportunity to amplify your effort. Not because what you did isn’t big enough, but because new litter may pile on fast, covering your traces…

Cleanup organizers who share the petition empower the participants, giving them a voice that stays even when they’re absent.
