Petition updateStop discriminating against athletes with disabilities: Save the PararoosAgenda for Meeting: Minister for Sport Peter Dutton and Paul Brown
Paul Rushworth-BrownSydney, Australia
19 July 2014
Dear Mr Dutton, I am sure that you have already read the following article, written by Peter Fitzsimons in the Sydney Morning Herald. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/no-minister-funding-cuts-are-unacceptable-20140718-zub9o.html With the utmost respect, my question to you is when, as Minister for Sport are you going to cease passing the buck with regard to the Australian Sport Commissions' (ASC) decision to axe Australian Paralympic Football (Pararoo) funding. The buck should stop with you and I would hope that you can open your eyes to this tragedy. Over 75,000 (and counting) citizens of this country, many your constituents, have identified to you a mis justice and wrong doing within our midst and yet you continually ignore the issue. As an ex policeman and an honourable member who spoke of balance, addressing imbalances and rights of the individual in his maiden speech, I find your lack of empathy quite disturbing. I was a strong supporter of John Howard and have spoken to him on a number of occasions with regard to the Pararoo program and his great support of it. It is a shame that the program was developed under his government and has now been axed under yours. I would like to meet with you at your convenience to discuss this issue and I plead with you, a leader in our great democracy, to hear my words about this injustice and the long lasting effects it will have on our citizens. Below are some of the issues that I would like to discuss, an agenda if you like: 1. The neglectful and bias proposal put to the ASC by Football Federation Australia on our behalf, for funding. 2. The continual discrimination directed toward paralympic sports and paralympic athletes in this country. 3. The measly $175,000 budget afforded to the Pararoo program which allowed for 4 national camps a year. 4. The state of affairs in other countries such as the 6 million dollar budget afforded to the English Parafootball National Team; the full time Parafootball academy that the dutch have develeoped; the $20,000,00 dollar stipend afforded to the Canadian National players; professional parafootball players in the Russian and Ukraine national teams. 5. The stigma associated with Paralympic football and my 10 year struggle to break it down. 6. Matthew Favier's claim that funding was stopped because we were not deserved of a medal in Rio, but then funded Boccia, who were not going to receive a medal in Rio, but funding was continued until 2020. 7. The Discrimination directed by Football Federation Australia towards us, in favour of able bodied programs. 8. The potential of the Pararoos to gain qualification to the Paralympics as one of the youngest national teams in the world. 9. Funding to sporting organisations that have capable marketing and sponsorship deals. 10. Recent success in Asia including a gold medal in the inaugural Dream Asia Tournament in the United Arab emirites; qualification for the world championships for the last 10 years and more success in Europe including wins against Spain, Finland etc. I hope that you can see it in your heart to incorrect this 'Imbalance' and meet with me at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, yours in sport, Paul Brown Australian Paralympic Football Head Coach M: +61 418215045 E: Paul.Brown@footballaustralia.com.au paulbrown630@gmail.com
