According to a City of Ottawa By-law No. 2017-301, heavy trucks are prohibited on Sunnyside Avenue. However, non-local heavy trucks continue to use Sunnyside Avenue and the frequency of this traffic has been increasing year over year. It increases the risk to pedestrians, cyclists and students & employees of Hopewell Public School. Also, the loud and disruptive noise from trucks using this narrow residential street interfere with day-to-day life, work and sleep.

It is especially urgent to reinforce the by-law now that more residents stay home due to Covid-19.  

We, the undersigned, as concerned residents of Sunnyside Avenue and Old Ottawa South, want the heavy truck traffic to stop in accordance with By-law No. 2017-301. We urge the Council of the City of Ottawa, our bi-law enforcement officers and our city leaders to act now.
