Osceola High School Dress- code Petition.
The Issue
Recently, Osceola High School posted a photo stating that the dress code does not allow Grey clothing or slides. At first, this may not be an issue to an outsiders’ point of view. But for the student body of Osceola, we have a lot to say.
Last school year the students of the school were allowed to wear Blue, Gold, White, Black, and Grey. As for shoes, we were able to wear slides, sandals and also crocs. They removed the color Grey from the dress-code as for sandals and slides. Even though in the official student handbook of Osceola county section II : Students Rights And Responsibilities it states in paragraph 5 “ High school students may wear sandals provided they do not interfere with the safety and welfare of the student and are appropriate to the student’s class schedule.” This is outrageous because many families cannot buy new clothing every year for their children. According to the Central Florida Public Media it states that “A third of US cannot afford school supplies”. Alongside the fact that back to school shopping for clothing ( not including school supplies ) costs up to $400 ( or more depending on the quantity of children in the household. ) Which puts a costly toll on a family. One parent from a child that attends Osceola High School states “Highly unprofessional with the school dress code!”. “Osceola High school says that slides are against the dress code when they have not been the 4 years i have been at the school.” A quote from a student, attending the school as a senior.
Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, we strictly urge you to take this into accountability and make this change to the dress code immediately.
