We believe that sex education in Utah is extremely minimal. Abstinence only is a good idea but isn't substantial. Teen pregnancy rates in Utah are among the highest in the country. The fact is, people are having sex. However, they aren't educated properly to do it in a safe manner. Sexual assault can also be prevented with proper education on safe relationships and consent, as well as date rape. 67.7% of rape cases were reported to Utah Police Agencies in 2014 and is significantly higher than the national rate which is 51.9%. Consider the fact that 88.2% of rape is not reported to law enforcement. Rape is a part of our culture and prevention is the next step to putting an end to it.
