The Issue

Saint Helens, Oregon should get to have a celebration for World Quantum Day, and here is why:

World Quantum Day is "an annual celebration promoting public awareness and understanding of quantum science and technology around the world" according to worldquantumday.org. I have always loved science, so when I discovered this, and saw how many other places are doing it, I knew we deserved a piece.

Many view quantum as a word as simply a tech from Marvel, but its a very loose definition, and affects a lot more than people realize. This is exactly why an outreach would be amazing to teach. Getting kids excited to do science will have drastic benefits for the city, and the schools. Kids will behave better if they're excited to learn! Our school district is currently suffering some issues, and having an opportunity to get engaged, and even possibly raise money, is definitely worthwhile.

Having a good event provides plenty of more easily tangible benefits as well. Local vendors can join in, boosting the economy, helping everyone. People will be happier, and the tarnished reputation we currently carry will be boosted through a happy festival.

I have a deep dedication to public service, being the president of Key Club, as well as a passion for science, so I truly believe this is a worthwhile cause. There is not an exact idea of a date, and it unfortunately cannot fall exactly on World Quantum Day, but if we get this moving it can be soon!

Please sign if you want to brighten our city up a notch!
