Organise a National School Strike Day for Parental Choice

The Issue

As a parent I am deeply concerned about our governments response to over a quarter of a million people regarding taking children out of school at the parents discretion for family holidays.

Family holidays promote good mental health and well being. Not only for the child but the parents also. They allow children to experience other cultures and open their eyes to new and exciting experiences with their families!
We have parental responsibility until our children are 18 and we believe that this legislation is impeaching on these rights. Children who don’t have holidays become bogged down, stressed and over tired, this in turn has an effect on their mental health, school work, social life. Etc.

I am calling on other parents to join me on a National School Strike Day. This is not just about my family; it affects every family wanting to make their own choice about their own child's life.

In recent years, we have seen an increasing number of policies that limit parental involvement in educational decisions. A study by the Pew Research Center found that 68% of parents believe they should have the final say in issues concerning their children's education (Pew Research Center, 2020). Yet, many feel unheard and sidelined.

A National School Strike Day would serve as a powerful statement from parents nationwide who demand respect for their rights and choices when it comes to educating their children. It would provide an opportunity for us to voice our concerns collectively and push for change.

We urge you to stand with us in this fight for parental choice by supporting this call for a National School Strike Day. Please sign this petition today!

The national strike day would be for all school age children and would take place on Wednesday 24th July 2024.

Please sign and share.
