People should have the ability to enjoy their properties unimpeded by the harmful wood smoke of another neighbor.  This is especially important for small children, sufferers of asthma or COPD, or anyone who simply wants to open a window in their home or sit outside.  The fact that this is still allowed in modern times, especially given the science around its dangers, is nothing short of ridiculous.  The idea that one cannot smoke a cigarette within 10 feet of a business, but a house can smoke the equivalent continuous stream of thousands of cigarettes with the same harmful toxins on top of other houses for miles around makes zero sense.  Further, there are much cleaner fuels and apparatus for outdoor burning, such as natural gas, so alternatives exist.  If not already moved, modern construction techniques further make this problematic, as most new HVAC installations include a fresh air intake, disallowing one to simply close one's windows and "ride it out".  Bottom line, we simply cannot afford to continue to allow this kind of behavior, not for our citizens, not for our environment, and certainly not for those whose suffer health issues because of it.  It's time for the selfish behavior to stop, and for people to collectively do the right thing and end the ability to infringe on other people's rights to enjoy their properties unimpeded and protect their health.
