Today I confirmed that another major factor was won for the miners. Mining Claim owners of pre-existing mines that were absorbed within the lands now designated as the Chuckwalla National Monument will still follow Bureau of Land Management (BLM) rules. This is huge! Had the miners been forced to abide by National Park Service (NPS) rules, since this is a Monument - a Park Service "unit", it would have cost mining claim owners tens of thousands of dollars, possibly over $100k, just to prepare the NPS required Plan Of Operations application to request to continue our Casual Use/Small-Scale mining, even though we only use hand tools, NO heavy equipment. And the NPS could have denied the request. No small-scale miner could afford that, and all mining would have ceased to exist. But today I learned, from the BLM, that since the lands were never transferred from the BLM to the NPS, and the proclamation specifically says BLM will continue to administer the lands, BLM regulations and policies will continue to apply to all miners. This is huge for especially the Casual Use/Small-Scale miner, that mom & pop, individual, prospecting clubs type miners. There is effectively no chance to our routine. Which was another aspect of my fight!
