Opposition to Pleasant Bay Electoral Boundary Change

The Issue

While I fully respect and support efforts to recognize and preserve the culture and heritage of French Acadian communities, I am deeply concerned that the proposed boundary changes would make Acadian identity the sole focus of representation. Pleasant Bay and surrounding areas include residents with diverse backgrounds, interests, and local priorities that extend well beyond cultural heritage alone.

If the new boundaries are drawn primarily around cultural lines, there is a real risk that the voices and needs of non-Acadian residents will be overlooked in political decision-making. Representation should reflect the whole community, not just one part of it. Our elected officials should be able to advocate for all their constituents — Acadian and non-Acadian alike — in a balanced and inclusive way.

By drawing Pleasant Bay into a district defined by Acadian heritage, we risk losing that balance. Fair representation means ensuring every resident — regardless of language, background, or culture — has an equal opportunity to be heard.

It is my understanding that the Nova Scotia Electoral Boundaries Commission will only accept feedback (emails, phone calls, or petition) until November 3, 2025.

Pleasant Bay must maintain the status quo to ensure balanced decision-making and accountability across the region.

If you agree that every voice in our community deserves to be heard — and that changes to our electoral boundaries should not be made without proper consultation — please do not delay. Sign this petition and stand with Pleasant Bay. Together, we can ensure that our community remains visible, valued, and fairly represented in any future decisions.
