Dear supporters,
Brent Council has submitted the planning application for the redevelopment of Clement Close, giving us until Feb 23rd to comment (Application Number 23/0024). Some people (myself included) still haven't received the notification letter, which is why I am sharing here. I want to make sure that you are all aware and given as much time as possible to submit your comments.
Despite our repeated and clearly expressed requests to scale down the proposal, and the promise from Brent Council to take our views into consideration, the application that has been submitted is for the exact same proposal as we opposed. No change was made to the proposal as a result of the consultation. Our friend and neighbour whose family home is to be demolished should the proposal go ahead has received no reassurance nor communication from Brent Council about their plans to rehome her, her husband and young children.
Again, we understand and support the Council's imperative to create more social and affordable housing for the growing Brent community. However, we object to the scale of this project, which would see 22 new family homes crammed on a small parcel of land, negatively impacting the existing 88 families who already reside there. How can we accept a proposal which will see most of our green spaces replaced with infill dwellings, the majority of our mature trees felled, and our right to light and privacy diminished by new blocks erected right in front of our main windows? And what type of environment would this provide to the newcomers? Should the Council keep pressing their development targets even if that means compromising the environment, the mental and in some cases physical health of the existing residents? Everybody deserves a decent place to live, and that includes the existing residents of Clement Close.
Thank you for your support.
