The Petition process is off to a great start with over 325 signatures (and counting) and we hope to reach our goal of 500 signatures quickly. We appreciate everyone coming together and please continue to forward the petition to as many residents as possible.
Westport United for Responsible Development is also taking the following steps:
1) We are interviewing attorneys to work with us in challenging this proposed development;
2) We have requested meetings with First Selectman James Marpe;
3) We have discussed the Planning & Zoning approval process with Larry Bradley;
4) We are considering forming a Political Action Committee to fund our opposition to this project;
5) We have contacted newspapers and blog sites to make them aware of the issues involved in this proposed development;
The owner of the Westport Inn is required to complete its approvals with the Westport Conservation Commission before any meetings or hearings can occur with Planning & Zoning. Our immediate goal is to challenge the environmental impact of this proposed development at the Conservation Commission level.
On November 19, 2014, the Westport Conservation Commission approved Ranger Properties’ proposed amendment of the wetlands map. We are considering filing an appeal to this decision on various grounds.
On January 21, 2015, there will be a public hearing with the Westport Conservation Commission. This meeting will be held at 7:00 PM in the Town Hall Auditorium. At this meeting, the applicant will present the design of the proposed apartment complex, and the Conservation Commission will decide what impacts to the environment will occur as a result of the proposed development. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU ATTEND THIS MEETING AND BE PREPARED TO SPEAK IN OPPOSITION TO THIS PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT.
