The Issue

I am a concerned resident of Warrington, deeply disturbed by Warrington Borough Council's plan to introduce parking charges in Stockton Heath and Lymm, which will consequently discontinue the free parking periods. This scheme, without a doubt, will worsen the already existing issues of residential parking, burden schools and their many parents who depend on these car parks for daily drop off and pick up, as well as negatively affect retailers and hospitality sectors. These sectors are already grappling for business continuity. This proposed plan will inflict further damage on them and does not extend any benefits to our communities.

This petition is not just another community problem for me. It's personal, deeply rooted in the flawed decision-making of the council leaders. It's a fact that Warrington Borough Council holds a debt of approximately 1.85 billion pounds, one of the highest among English unitary authorities. Yet, leaders have been reckless in engaging our funds in unprofitable investments in energy companies and property, including Redwood, Together Energy, and Betfred.

Warrington once had a thriving town culture, but today, it paints a grim picture with businesses shutting down and deserted shops. Skyrocketing business rates have made it unbearable for small businesses to survive. The same Council that has watched as our local economy shrank now wishes to pressurize the very community it's supposed to serve with unnecessary parking fees, adding to the financial strain of residents and our pensioners.

We must put a stop to this. I urge you and every other concerned citizen to act now. Please sign this petition and demand Warrington Borough Council to reconsider this unjust plan. Let's fight for the future of our community. Sign this petition today.
