Hello friends:
We are throwing our support behind Kitsilano Coalition, a group of businesses, stratas, schools, residents and other key stakeholders who are opposed to the rezoning proposal for Arbutus and West 7/8th Avenues. You can learn more about Kitsilano Coalition's position on the rezoning at its website: www.kitsilanocoalition.org
Vancouver City Council is expected to put the rezoning application to public hearing and vote soon. BC Housing and the City of Vancouver have stated that this project is "one of the first of a series of permanent modular supportive housing projects" they are partnering on, and that they are creating a precedent for future supportive housing projects. This rezoning application for high-density, low-barrier housing in a residential area therefore has implications not only for the Kitsilano neighbourhood, but for all of Vancouver.
Kitsilano Coalition needs your urgent help to tell members of City Council that residents are opposed to the rezoning and that they must vote against it. You can help Kitsilano Coalition in the following ways:
Write a personal letter to City Council voicing your opposition to the rezoning application using Kitsilano Coalition's attached letter writing guide. If you previously wrote to City Council about the rezoning, please write again. Please also ask those you trust to write letters. It is important that we keep engaging City Council, especially since those groups in support of the project continue to do so. Every single letter matters.
