Oppose the proposed Illawarra Offshore wind zone

The issue

On 14 August, 2023, The Minister for Climate Change and Energy visited Wollongong to announce consultation for a new offshore wind zone from Wombarra, NSW to Gerringong, NSW. This wind farm will be over 70 km long, adjacent to a most picturesque tourist spot merely 66 km south of Sydney. This proposed wind zone will greatly impact the migration route of endangered whale species, fishing, and will greatly impact sea birds and the shipping route, including Port Kembla Harbour. The creation of these large turbines, which will be over 250 metres high will seriously impact the tourism of the area, (on which it relies), as well as property values, and will create visual pollution. These turbines, have a shelf life of approximately 25 years, and are non recyclable, causing a serious landfill issue once they are non-operational. We demand that other means of energy production be explored that will not have the negative environmental and tourism impacts.
