Good evening

I hope you are well. Thank you again for signing the petition on the MIR when the increase to £38,700 was announced back in December 2023.

Since then there have been few developments which I wanted to update you all with, as I imagine you are still interested in the family visa policy and how it negatively affects our lives.

I wanted to get in touch with you about some campaigning opportunities you could support that helps to build a fairer and more humane family immigration system:

As you may know, in December 2023, after strong opposition to the changes, the previous Conservative administration decided to partially climb down from their initial decision and they announced that they would introduced the increase in 3 stages starting from April 2024, when the MIR went up to £29,000 a rise of over £10k and a figure which is only earner by half of the country, even less when considering part time workers, people living outside London and the South East and/or belonging to specific ethnic groups.

When Labour came into power following the General Election in the Summer of 2024, they announced that they would pause the further increases and instead commission the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to review the financial requirements of the family visas

As part of this the MAC ran a call for evidence which received the largest number of responses ever and will now present their report in June.

On Monday the 23th of June, Reunite Families UK is organising “Love in Limbo: the consequences of the spouse/partner immigration rules” an event in Parliament  which will take place in the Jubilee Room of the Palace of Westminster, the 23rd of June between 2 PM and 4 PM.

The event will include:

  • The results of the largest survey to date ever conducted with people impacted by the spouse/partner migration rules and:
  • The children’s charity CORAM presenting the child-centred interviews they conducted on our behalf with children whose families are or are trying to be on this visa route.

Between now and June it will be a key time for us to campaign to have fair and humane family migration rules and this is how you can help us:

Write to your MPs and them to be there at the event using this template (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BqNedoJc90RMYjQISazYIig7cjCYbn5j/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=110395494867438954994&rtpof=true&sd=true

Join our training to learn how to engage your MPs and make sure they become a voice for a fairer and humane migration system. Register here. (https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/d79eb500-877b-4b17-a3c8-7ddbb86993c2@f7c52dff-ae38-41ad-b60a-87e4f65d4ce2

Thank you for reading this message and I thank you for any action you are able to take because ultimately love should not have such a huge and devastating price tag and families should be together

Many thanks and have a lovely weekend
