Teignbridge District Council is threatening to close the public toilets in Ashburton Town Centre and at Newbridge (Spitchwick). The closure will be decided at a Teignbridge full council meeting on 29th July but Ashburton Town Council have been informed these closure are likely to go ahead. 

Ashburton is a busy and thriving town welcoming visitors throughout the year. Many stop off here breaking their journey to shop and need toilet facilities. They often arrive before cafes are open. Locals who live in the town also use the toilets and many with a disability will tell us how vital the toilets are. This is a disability discrimination issue as well. 

Those of us who visit Newbridge already know that litter and waste are a problem particularly in the summer and the shutting of the toilets here is likely to become a health hazard and a public health issue.

Teignbridge have a statutory responsibility for public health!

Our councillors represent us, the council tax payers, and there is no support for these proposals. Our councillors should be voting based on our need for the vital services.
