Oppose the conversion of family homes to HMOs in Portsmouth streets

Oppose the conversion of family homes to HMOs in Portsmouth streets
The Issue
Let Portsmouth City Council know that more HMOs (Houses of Multiple Occupancy) are not wanted in Portsmouth North and other residential Portsmouth streets.
Planning policies need urgent reform.
Since 2021, planning applications to convert 3-bedroom family homes into HMOs with 7/8 en-suite bedrooms have been, and continue to be, submitted and granted at an unprecedented rate.
More strain on parking.
More strain on the sewerage system.
More strain on local services.
More building work and skips in the street.
Loss of family homes.
Potential for noise and antisocial behaviour.
Members of the public have valid objections to HMOs springing up close to their homes.
Weak planning policy results in neighbours' objections being ignored as irrelevant to the criteria on which HMO applications are granted.
Morally bankrupt, greedy developers are targeting Portsmouth's family housing stock.
They are taking full advantage of current weak planning policy to gain full planning approval for their investors.
While residents and neighbours concerns are ignored, developers and investors reap rich rewards.
We ask Portsmouth City Council to significantly strengthen criteria for HMO approvals.
